Cryptsy: The Crypto Exchange that went up in Flames.

Cryptsy was one of the first entrants in the cryptocurrency exchange game and it started with a bang. It was launched in 2013 and immediately gained popularity among traders who preferred to enjoy a wide range of altcoins. Bitcoin and Litecoin were the show stars, but Cryptsy had a far wider range of cryptocurrencies. In case you were one of the early adopters and wanted to be part of the next big thing this was the place to be. More interested parties can continue to additional reading at the end of the article. However, as most of the other people in the unstable crypto world, the Cryptsy story went wrong.

One of the biggest blows to the platform came in the year 2014 when the platform was hacked. Bitcoins and other altcoins worth millions of dollars were stolen off the accounts of users. And in case that was not enough of a catastrophe, the exchange was unable to compensate its customers in the properly way. They had promises of refunds but the promises were fruitless to many. The confidence which had been years in coming was destroyed in a moment. People did not lose money only, they lost trust in Cryptsy as well.

The situation did not stop with the hack. In 2015, Cryptsy halted withdrawals over prolonged intervals citing technical challenges. It was a frustrating experience, at least to you, who were one of the unfortunate traders who still had the platform. The technical problems reason was just another grounds of suspicion. A lot of traders had already moved out by the time, and it was obvious that the platform was not able to survive anymore.

Cryptsy could not survive even after trying to continue. It was permanently closed in 2016 following legal suit and fraud claims. The platform, which was once so promising, was now a case study. It was a sad demise of a one-time popular exchange and many users have been left behind.

The failure of Cryptsy is a lesson that the crypto world can easily turn out to be misleading. It was a lesson to other dealings that without security and trust, a business cannot survive. The greatest variety of coins can be found in an exchange, but when it cannot provide the high level of security or customer service, it is doomed to fail. Cryptsy could have become something big but it failed in the wake of its own errors. The crypto-space is a rushed place, and the collapse of Cryptsy demonstrated how fast things can be destroyed.
